TOLSON   Family History

This page is mainly about the family and ancestors of the Revd. Francis Tolson (1693-1746) and his daughter Catherine (1716-1782) who married John Duck, a Quaker.   The earliest member found is Richard Tolson, a merchant of Cockermouth, who held land at Greysouthern (Grayson) as shown in Chancery Proceedings 18th April 1508.   However, part of the Tolson family between those dates was well connected and some of Francis Tolson's ancestors are alleged to date back to Robert of Normandy and earlier.

Francis Tolson's mother was Sarah Woodroffe the daughter of Edward who was Surveyor to the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey.   After the Great Fire of London Edward was heavily involved in the rebuilding of London, working with Christopher Wren.    Any details that you can add, especially corrections will be gratefully received.   GeoffStone@Wedmore.org.uk

The following table is in sections by generation.   The chart is read from left to right with the earliest generation at the left and the eldest children at the top.   Numbered links to the next section are shown to the right if there are more descendants.   The numbers themselves have no significance, other than their position in the entire Stone family tree.   At the top of each section to the left is a numbered link to the earlier generations, where applicable.Chart Information
